Senator COLLINS (Minister for Transport and Communications) —I present the Government's response to the report of the Standing Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs on the Scrutiny of Annual Reports, No. 2 of 1991, December 1991. I seek leave to incorporate the document in Hansard and move a motion in relation to the document.

  Leave granted.

  The document read as follows—

Senator B Cooney

Senate Standing Committee on Legal

and Constitutional Affairs

Parliament House

Dear Senator Cooney

I refer to the Committee's report on the Scrutiny of Annual Reports No 2 of 1991 (December 1991) which recommended:

that when new guidelines for annual reports of non-departmental bodies are introduced, consideration be given to ensuring that Ministers indicate the dates on which reports are furnished to and received by them.

The Government notes the recommendations and will take them into account when revising the reporting requirements for statutory authorities.

Yours sincerely

Senator COLLINS —I move:

That the Senate take note of the document.

Debate (on motion by Senator Reid) adjourned.
