Senator PARER (1.33 a.m.) —I do not wish to debate at 1.30 in the morning the amendments moved by Senator Powell. Let me just say that, in view of the fact that this legislation was introduced by Mr Howard, I think, in 1978, the Opposition has consistently supported it. We have taken the view that it has been one of the great deterrents not to reasonable trade union people but to the more militant exponents of trade unionism in Australia. For that reason, we will not support the amendments.
