Senator LEES (Deputy Leader of the Australian Democrats) (9.13 p.m.) —Speaking of consistency, last night Senator Patterson argued on the opposite side of the fence in this issue because she argued a case for parliamentary scrutiny, which is the same case that I am now arguing. At that time we did not agree with her. The only thing we can agree to agree on is that sometimes parliamentary scrutiny is appropriate. At other times—we argue very strongly that last night was one of those times—it is not appropriate. In this case, we will be supporting the clause because we believe that parliamentary scrutiny is appropriate.
