Senator MACKLIN —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate-

(a) notes that more than 600 Palestinians and 40 Israelis have been killed since the Intifada commenced some 21 months ago;

(b) expresses its concern that more than 100 Palestinians have been killed by fellow Arabs;

(c) is alarmed at the Israeli Defence Minister's decision to give his troops greater freedom to open fire with live ammunition on masked Palestinians; and

(d) urges the Federal Government to continue to use its good offices with the Israeli authorities to express Australia's concern at this escalation in the violence in the Israeli-occupied territories.
