Senator CALVERT —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate-

(a) condemns the introduction to Tasmania of backdoor government and the removal of the people from the decision-making process as evidenced by the refusal to allow comment by the democratic Parliament or the people on the proposed nomination of a large section of Tasmania to the World Heritage List;

(b) acknowledges that this collusion is just further evidence of the duplicity of the so-called Labor/Green alliance which, before it unceremoniously grabbed power, promised full and open debate on such decisions;

(c) recognises that this secret deal will take from the Tasmanian people 25 per cent of their own state which will be effectively locked away from any future balanced and environmentally sound economic development; and

(d) calls upon the Tasmanian State Government to delay any decisions on World Heritage listing until such time as it has honoured its commitment to the Tasmanian people by allowing full and open public debate on the proposed listing.
