Senator NEWMAN —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate-

(a) notes:

(i) that the pilots' dispute is the direct result of the Labor Government's mismanagement,

(ii) the intervention of the Prime Minister (Mr Hawke), has been thoroughly inept and has inflamed the dispute,

(iii) the massive dislocation spreading throughout the economy and, in particular, to the tourism and hotel industries, and

(iv) that the Government has been unable or unwilling to take action to protect the interests of Tasmanians and the Tasmanian tourist industry; and

(b) calls on the Prime Minister, if he intends to take a leadership role in this matter, to take effective action to exempt the island state from the total isolation which has been caused by the failure of the centralised wage fixing system.
