Senator MACKLIN —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate-

(a) Notes that it was the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany 50 years ago which was the direct cause of Australia's involvement in the Second World War;

(b) Congratulates Mr Mazowiecki on becoming Poland's new Prime Minister and the first non-communist to hold that position in more than 40 years;

(c) Acknowledges the extreme economic and social difficulties that Mr Mazowiecki's Government has to face; and

(d) Calls on the Australian Government to give whatever assistance it can to further the cause of political democracy for the people of Poland.
