To the Honourable the President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled. The petition of the undersigned respectfully showeth that:

1. The decision to change to the UHF transmission in 1993 should not be made compulsory in Tasmania.

2. That VHF airwaves in Tasmania are not overcrowded, unlike mainland Australia.

3. That Tasmanian television stations presently transmit in VHF which is properly suited to Tasmania's mountainous terrain.

4. That the UHF band relies on ``the line of sight'' and is unsatisfactory for transmission to many parts of the state.

5. That compulsory UHF will mean financial outlays for many, and could result in some being denied a signal.

Your petitioners request that the Senate, in Parliament assembled, reject the proposals which would force Tasmanians to convert to UHF transmission.

And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.
