Senator CHANEY (Leader of the Opposition) —by leave-During the debate on the matter of public importance, Senator McKiernan and Senator Childs both made reference to the New Right. There was a reference to my support of Mr Charles Copeman who is, of course, a Liberal candidate in New South Wales-a fact which I warmly welcome. The simple point that I wish to make is that of course I support Liberal candidates particularly when, as in the case of Mr Charles Copeman, they publicly advocate the settled policies of the coalition parties. In the particular matter referred to by Senator McKiernan that was the situation. Members of the Opposition have a very carefully considered and worked out industrial relations policy. It has the support of all members of the Opposition and of our candidates, and I am delighted when they promote it. Whether they then attract the label `New Right' from Senator McKiernan or any other honourable senator is a matter for them, but I reject the implication that there is in some way a supporting of extreme policies which are not the policies of the coalition.
