Senator NEWMAN —My question is directed to the Minister representing the Minister for Defence Science and Personnel. Is it correct that a spouse representative attended meetings of the Defence Housing Authority as an observer from January 1988 until the legislation was amended on 24 November 1988? Is it correct that no appointment of a spouse representative has been made to the Board of the Authority since the legislation was passed in November 1988? What is the justification for this? Does this mean that there have been no voting rights for a spouse representative on the Board of the Defence Housing Authority from its inception in January 1988 until now? When will a spouse representative be appointed to the Board? Will such a spouse representative be given travel funding by the Government or the Authority to maintain contact with the Defence Force families he or she represents around Australia?

Senator RICHARDSON —I have no information in my brief here on the matters which Senator Newman has raised. I shall seek information and let the honourable senator know as soon as I can.
