Senator CHANEY (Leader of the Opposition)(3.10) —by leave-I move:

That the Senate take note of the answer.

I do not wish to abuse the leave of the Senate by debating the statement, but I do wish to use this opportunity to clarify with the Minister for the Arts, Sport, the Environment, Tourism and Territories (Senator Richardson) my understanding of the answer that he has just given. It sounded as though the Commonwealth itself, through the Department of Administrative Services and the Minister's Department, is undertaking various surveys of the Bushmead land and that the outcome of those surveys will determine whether any action is required by the Commonwealth and, indeed, whether an arrangement could be finalised. It would be helpful to my constituents if I could have confirmation from the Minister that my understanding of those words is correct. I seek leave to continue my remarks.

Leave granted.
