Senator SHEIL —My question is directed to the Minister for the Arts, Sport, the Environment, Tourism and Territories. Following the Minister's answer to Senator Bjelke-Petersen on 8 June 1989 concerning the new Brisbane International Airport, when he said that the Brisbane Airport had to take its turn with other budgetary priorities, has the Government considered letting the contract to private enterprise as this would cost the Government nothing, the Government would be able to say what it wanted built and the program could be started immediately? If the Government has rejected this line of action, what were the decisive factors?

Senator RICHARDSON —As Senator Sheil is probably aware, nowhere within my ministerial responsibilities does it say that I conduct negotiations as to who builds what at airports. That is a matter for my colleague Mr Willis. I will endeavour to ask him what arrangements have been made and will inform Senator Sheil as soon as I can.
