Motion (by Senator Boswell, on behalf of Senator Chaney) agreed to:

That so much of the Standing Orders be suspended as would prevent the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate (Senator Chaney) moving a motion relating to the conduct of the business of the Senate, to provide for the consideration of community services and health legislation together with proposed references of matters to committees.

Motion (by Senator Boswell, on behalf of Senator Chaney) agreed to:

That Business of the Senate Notice of Motion No. 1 standing in the name of Senator Boswell and relating to a reference to the Community Affairs Committee, and General Business Notice of Motion No. 302 standing in the name of Senator Puplick and relating to the establishment of a Select Committee, be called on together with General Business Order of the Day No. 3, be considered together with the second reading of the Community Services and Health Legislation Amendment Bill 1989, the Supported Accommodation Assistance Bill 1989 and the Aged or Disabled Persons Homes Amendment Bill 1988, but be voted on separately.
