Senator VALLENTINE —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate-

(a) notes the successful non-violent, direct action campaign this week by the Jerrinja and Wreck Bay Aboriginal communities with their supporters, to stop the bombing of the Beecroft Peninsula in Jervis Bay;

(b) notes, too, the failure of the Government and the military to understand what this campaign is about, and that similar campaigns will continue to occur until the military respect the wishes of the people of the area whose claims to the land go back some 25 000 years;

(c) calls on the Government to respect the wishes of these communities that Jervis Bay be protected for all time and for all Australian people as a National Park and Marine Reserve, and that bombing and shelling of this area must stop and the range closed permanently; and

(d) further calls on the Government to save taxpayers several billion dollars over the next 20 years by cancelling plans to relocate the Newington armament depot and fleet base to Jervis Bay.
