Senator ALSTON(10.12) —I seek guidance from the Committee as to whether a further amendment might satisfy the concerns of the Australian Democrats. If one were to add at the end of the current amendment `and at their expense' it would then be clear, I think, that the intention of the Parliament, as expressed through clause 35, was that the burden of 008 charges would be borne by government departments. If that were so, surely no-one could suggest that government departments and agencies could blithely ignore that statutory prescription. In those circumstances I invite the Democrats to consider whether such a further amendment would meet their concerns.
