Senator GARETH EVANS (Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade)(11.55) —The proposed amendments are unnecessary. They ignore the specific provision in clause 68 (2) (c) and the extremely broad powers provided in clause 68 as a whole. Austel has sufficient powers to require all relevant information on reserved services to be published and to regulate the terms and conditions under which information will be provided to participants in the market. Clause 20, particularly when it is read in conjunction with clause 68 (2) (c), is broad enough to provide the necessary guidance to Austel, in the Government's judgment. We oppose the amendments accordingly.

Question put:

That the amendments (Senator Alston's) be agreed to.
