Senator GARETH EVANS (Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade)(11.39) —There will be a full and open consultative process. Submissions will be taken and there will be a published report. That is the Government's intention. The timetable of it, and the precise modalities, as we say in my new Department, have yet to be resolved. However, there will be ample opportunity for the honourable senator to wax as indignant and as lyrical as he likes for hours on end, and I hope I am not in the chamber when he does.

Senator Alston —Does an open approach mean a public hearing?

Senator GARETH EVANS —It is up to Austel; go and lobby them.

Senator Alston —Does the Government have any objection to Austel conducting a public hearing?

Senator GARETH EVANS —No.

Amendment negatived.
