Senator POWELL —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate-

(a) supports environmental actions taking place around Australia and in other parts of the world on 5 June 1989, which is world environment day;

(b) notes the statement by the World Commission on Environment and Development in its publication Our Common Future, that `the ability to choose policy paths that are sustainable requires that the ecological dimensions of policy be considered at the same time as the economic, trade, energy, agricultural, industrial and other dimensions-on the same agendas and in the same national and international institutions';

(c) notes that the World Commission on Environment and Development sees this as `the chief institutional challenge of the 1990's; and

(d) calls on the Government to show leadership by taking action on these fine principles set out by the Brundtland Commission.
