The ACTING DEPUTY PRESIDENT (Senator Crichton-Browne) —Mr President has received a letter from Senator Boswell proposing that a matter of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion, namely:

The failure of successive Territories Ministers to adequately fulfil their Ministerial responsibilities with respect to Christmas Island and the inadequacy of Senator Richardson's explanation as to why the government has accepted the recommendation of the assessor of Christmas Island mining proposals.

I call upon those senators who approve of the proposed discussion to rise in their places.
