Senator TATE (Minister for Justice)(1.48) —The debate on this matter is mercifully short, and I believe it should be put to a vote very speedily. In principle I think Senator Macklin's points are the ones that should carry the day, namely, that each chamber should be able to regulate its own affairs. For that reason the Senate ought to support this measure.

Question resolved in the affirmative.

Bill read a second time, and passed through its remaining stages without amendment or debate.

Sitting suspended from 1.50 to 2 p.m.
