Senator REID —My question, which is directed to you, Mr President, relates to an article in today's Canberra Times which indicates that in future contact between Australian Capital Territory (ACT) government schools and Federal members of parliament must be organised through the Australian Capital Territory Schools Authority and approved by the Australian Capital Territory Minister for Education. What impact would such an arrangement have upon the educational programs conducted by the Parliamentary Education Office? I am thinking particularly of the program of school visits to Parliament House which are frequently arranged by Federal members of parliament for schools in their electorates and which I understand involve at least one Australian Capital Territory school a week? Can you also say whether non-ACT State school visits to Parliament House, where the program includes contact between students and their members of parliament, require the approval of the relevant State Minister for education?

The PRESIDENT —I did not see the article the honourable senator referred to; so I am not able to answer her question at this stage. I will attempt to get an answer for her as quickly as possible.
