Senator SANDERS —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate-

(a) notes the world-wide destruction of native forests, particularly rainforests, and the devastating and long-term consequences of this destruction;

(b) commends the initiative of rock musician Sting, together with Amazon chief Raoni, in their attempt to draw world attention to the destruction of the rainforests of South America;

(c) urges the Prime Minister (Mr Hawke), the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade (Senator Evans), and the Australian Government to:

(i) give all possible aid and assistance to Sting in his endeavours to save Amazonian rainforests,

(ii) ban the importation of rainforest timber, and

(iii) act to end the destruction of Australia's own native forests.
