Senator MACKLIN —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate-

(a) supports the moves being made in the People's Republic of China by citizens and the Communist Party leadership for increasing democratisation in that country;

(b) recognises that freedom of the press is one of the fundamental characteristics of any country wishing to enhance its democratic institutions and status; and

(c) hopes that the citizens and leadership of the People's Republic of China can peacefully and successfully achieve their democratic goals.
