To the Honourable the President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled.

The humble petition of the undersigned citizens of Australia respectfully showeth that:

The Parliamentary Joint Select Committee on Video Material has concluded that ``Adverse effects upon people, and especially upon children, of exposure to material containing various degrees of violence, pornography or obscenity have been demonstrated''.

The majority of the Select Committee strongly opposed the proposition for a new NVE (non-violent erotica) category, which would have entrenched X-rated video pornography.

All six State Governments have, through their Attorneys-General, expressed unanimous opposition to the circulation of X-rated videos.

We consider the continuing distribution of X-rated videos from the A.C.T. to be reprehensible and to be contrary to the wellbeing of the Australian community in general.

We strongly request urgent Government action to prohibit the distribution of X-rated and excessively violent video material.

And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray.
