Senator HARRADINE —by leave-I claim to have been misrepresented at Question Time on Friday. I apologise for not mentioning this until now, but on Friday we ran into broadcasting time difficulties. Senator Walsh indicated in his response to a question by Senator Faulkner on Friday that I had been inconsistent in my votes in respect of section 3 (12) of the taxation legislation. I have now had a look at Hansard, and I am glad that I have. Even Senator Walsh's relaying of the action of the Government is wrong. I rise not only to claim misrepresentation but also to indicate that anybody who might follow what Senator Walsh has said, and consider it to be true, should have a good look at what happened and the explanations contained in Hansard.

Consistent with my support for the rule of law, I refused to vote for the 1983 legislation, relating to section 3 (12) creating a new tax liability of a nature which had not previously existed and which would have been imposed retrospectively on innocent and guilty alike.
