(Question No. 900)

Senator Archer asked the Minister representing the Minister for Primary Industries and Energy, upon notice, on 9 March 1989:

What are the individual items included in the amount of $102,570 expended to 30 June 1988 on the establishment of the Horticultural Policy Council, and referred to on the last page of the Council's Annual Report for 1987, and what were the amounts expended under each item.

Senator Cook —The Minister for Primary Industries and Energy has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

The expenditure was incurred by the Department over the period since April 1986 when the Government announced that $10 million had been provided to fund a number of measures to assist the horticultural industries. The amount of $102,312 represents salaries of $76,000 (the equivalent of approximately one staff year over the period) and administrative support services of $26,312 (eg travel, telephone, postage, printing, computing facilities) for officers involved in the development and establishment of the Horticultural Policy Council. The balance of $257 represents the cost of travel undertaken by the Chairman of the Policy Council.
