Senator JESSOP —I refer the Minister representing the Minister for Primary Industry to the vine pull scheme which was initiated to allow grape growers under financial stress to withdraw gradually from the industry and to which the Federal Government has allocated something of the order of $7.5m. Is the Minister aware that in South Australia some 500 inquiries, representing 25 per cent of the grape growers in South Australia, have been received concerning this vine pull scheme and that 135 definite applications have been received to date? Will the Government give serious and immediate consideration to extending the 30 May 1986 deadline for applications to the scheme in order to allow grape growers under financial stress time to make a considered and correct decision regarding the future direction of their livelihood after this year's vintage?

Senator WALSH —Senator Jessop gave me some notice that he would ask a question like this but unfortunately his correspondence was sent through the internal post and it did not arrive in my office until half past twelve. I have not been able to get any information from Mr Kerin for that reason. I will pass the question on and provide Senator Jessop with an answer.
