(Question No. 732)

Senator Archer asked the Minister representing the Minister for Transport, upon notice, on 28 November 1985:

What steps have been taken, or are proposed, to cover the objections in regard to the Interstate Road Transport Act 1985 raised by the Senate Scrutiny of Bills Committee.

Senator Gietzelt —The Minister for Transport has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

The Minister for Transport wrote to the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee for the Scrutiny of Bills on 18 October 1985 outlining the Government's position in relation to matters the Committee raised concerning the Interstate Road Transport Act 1985 and the Interstate Road Transport Charge Act 1985. Subsequently the Government agreed to an amendment moved by the Australian Democrats which covered the Committee's concerns regarding the need for a legislative ceiling to be placed on interstate vehicle registration charges.
