(Question No. 713)

Senator Bolkus asked the Minister representing the Minister for Health, upon notice, on 27 November 1985:

Will an ID card prevent the development of new evasion industries such as moving funds off-shore to avoid the effects of the ID system, or strengthen an underground employment market for illegal immigrants.

Senator Grimes —The Minister for Health has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

This question addresses an issue on which work is currently being undertaken in preparation of the Government's submission to the Joint Select Committee on the Australia Card. I believe that it would be unreasonable to divert resources from the preparation of the submission to attempt to provide the substantial amount of information sought in the question. The Government's submission will be made available to members and senators.
