Senator GIETZELT (Minister for Veterans' Affairs)(3.40) —The Government, the Opposition and in fact all honourable senators share the concern expressed by the Australian Democrats, but we do not believe as I stressed earlier in the second reading debate that the objectives will be reached by the amendment. The Government accepts its responsibilities in regard to the areas mentioned by Senator Vigor and we ask that the Government be given the opportunity to show its concern that all aspects of the environment will be adequately covered by the adoption of this legislation.

Question put:

That the words proposed to be added (Senator Vigor's amendment) be added.

A division having been called for and bells being rung-

Senator Chipp —I raise a point of order. To facilitate matters I would be happy to seek leave to call off the division if all seven Democrats have their names recorded as voting for this amendment.

The TEMPORARY CHAIRMAN (Senator MacGibbon) —Is leave granted to call off the division if the names of the Democrats are recorded?

Leave granted.

Amendment negatived.

Bill agreed to.

Bill reported without amendment; report adopted.
