Senator CHIPP (Leader of the Australian Democrats)(10.50) —For reasons I gave in my speech during the second reading debate on the Broadcasting and Television Legislation Amendment Bill (No. 2) the Australian Democrats cannot support the motion. We do not think that there is the concern that Senator Puplick genuinely believes there is. Secondly, we would need overwhelming reasons to delay this legislation because of representations we have had from the Public Broadcasting Association of Australia, the Australian Council for Children's Films and Television and other organisations pleading with the Parliament to pass this legislation with expedition.
