Senator CHANEY (Leader of the Opposition)(6.05) —I refer to Schedule 6 in Customs Tariff Amendment Bill (No. 2) 1985, which refers to metal working machine tools and the increase in duty from 2 per cent to 25 per cent. I thank the Minister for Industry, Technology and Commerce (Senator Button) for his response, which went so far as to outline the procedures which are available to importers to obtain commercial tariff concessions where the spare parts are not manufactured in Australia. I ask the Minister whether he is able to give a commitment that the Government will expedite these applications. There is concern in the industry about delay. I ask him to give that simple undertaking that that will be done.
