Senator MESSNER(11.43) —The last half hour has demonstrated the stupidity and the absurdity of this particular legislation. Certainly, we have found out now just how ill thought out the Government's approach to this particular piece of legislation has been. Quite obviously it is something that is going to become more and more important in the debate later on as we get down into some of the other sections concerning entertainment. At this stage I just rise to make the point that we will be opposing this clause, for obvious reasons. If we did not know it before-I had regarded it previously as a consequential matter-now that the clause has been explained by the Minister obviously it now stands to be defeated on its own merits or demerits.

Question put:

That the clause stand as printed.
