To the Honourable the President and members of the Senate in Parliament assembled. The humble petition of the undersigned citizens of Australia respectfully showeth:

1. In this aging Australian society children are our most precious resource.

2. We request that any changes to the Child Care Act should ensure the protection of these children by providing for quality care by mothercraft nurses or other trained child care professionals.

3. We urge that funding provided under the Child Care Act should ensure the maintenance of the present standards of 75 per cent of award wages and conditions for approved child care professionals.

4. We also ask that available child care places be provided according to the needs of the children rather than through restricting access according to the work-related needs of parents.

And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray.
