Senator CHANEY —My question is directed to the Leader of the Government in the Senate. It arises from the speech that the Treasurer gave yesterday to the Euromoney conference, which has already been referred to in this place. I ask: Does the Minister agree that the Government's reported intention to press ahead with legislation which would give the Australian Council of Trade Unions control of the Commonwealth Public Service superannuation fund makes a mockery of the Treasurer's assurances to the Euromoney conference that the Government believes not in employee control but in shared responsibility?

Senator BUTTON —Frankly, I am not sure what the arrangements are in relation to the Commonwealth superannuation fund.

Senator Chaney —You have legislation before the Parliament.

Senator BUTTON —Yes, I understand that, but I think there have been discussions about that legislation. I do not think the honourable senator can rush to the conclusion that the legislation is necessarily going forward in its present form.
