Senator GARETH EVANS (Minister for Resources and Energy)(11.03) —I noted what Senator Reynolds had to say on the activities of the Royal Australian Air Force over Townsville. I will, of course, refer her concerns to the Minister for Defence (Mr Beazley). I am, no doubt, obliged also to refer Senator Collard's contribution on the same subject to the Minister for Defence but I do not think he will derive quite the same nourishment from it.

I think that probably is what can be said of Senator Michael Baume's contribution on the subject to taxation. I doubt whether the Treasurer (Mr Keating) will lose much sleep over Senator Baume's miscellaneous neuroses in this respect but, notwithstanding that, I will refer them to the Treasurer.

Senator Reid —I hope you are going to be more gracious about the nursing strike.

Senator GARETH EVANS —All right. Senator Reid made an admirable contribution to an ongoing debate of some considerable complexity, difficulty and sensitivity. Again, whether the Minister for Health (Dr Blewett) will regard it as admirably as I do, since she kept it so short, is something that remains to be seen. But I will at least ensure that he is aware of what Senator Reid has had to say.

Question resolved in the affirmative.

Senate adjourned at 11.10 p.m.
