Senator TEAGUE(8.08) —During the second reading debate I sought leave to incorporate a table, which was still being discussed when I concluded. I have been able to have some discussion with the Minister for Education (Senator Ryan) and with other honourable senators in the chamber and I now seek leave to incorporate this table in the Hansard record.

Senator Ryan —In order to facilitate the debate, I will agree to the incorporation sought by Senator Teague, but I do so with the qualification that neither my officers nor I have any way of verifying the data put forward. However, I will agree to its incorporation.

Senator TEAGUE —I am assured that it is a bona fide table, produced by the National Union of Associations for Christian Parent-controlled Schools. It is the 1985 summary of the 46 schools in the Association.

Leave granted.

The table read as follows-

Senator TEAGUE —I have some questions with regard to clause 6. I ask the Minister why the date of 15 October 1984 is mentioned in the Bill that is before us. In proposed new sub-section 6 (1) (c) there is reference to the Minister being satisfied that the change meets the criteria for acceptable changes to existing schools, and that phrase is picked up in the existing Act. I ask whether the original criteria still operate in the Act or whether they are modified by the Bill that is before us. In any event, is it confirmed that those criteria are superseded in respect of 1986 and beyond?
