Senator Archer asked the Minister representing the Minister for Primary Industry, upon notice, on 17 October 1985:

What proportion of farms in Australia rely on off-farm incomes in greater or lesser extent to supplement their operations.


Senator Walsh —The Minister for Primary Industry has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

The following table contains the most recent data available from the Bureau of Agricultural Economics concerning off-farm income. The data is collected during the regular farm survey undertaken by the Bureau and relates to off-farm income earned by the operator.
