Senator FOREMAN —Can the Minister representing the Minister for Local Government and Administrative Services advise what property holdings the Commonwealth has in South Africa and the expected expenditure in 1985-86 on property services in that country?

Senator GIETZELT —Some questions were asked at the Estimates Committee hearings about overseas property which was owned or leased by the Commonwealth. My brief informs me that with respect to property expenditure in South Africa some 23 properties are either owned or leased by the Commonwealth. In Pretoria the Commonwealth owns three residences and leases 10 including an office in which the Chancery is located. In Cape Town three residences are owned and two are leased, as well as an office for the consulate. In Johannesburg two residences are owned and an office for the trade commissioner is leased. Projected expenditure on property services in South Africa for 1985-86 is $421,000.
