Senator CHANEY (Leader of the Opposition) —I support the motion moved by the Leader of the Government in the Senate (Senator Button) and support the comments made by him and the Leader of the National Party in this place, Senator Stan Collard, who spoke on behalf of the Opposition. I associate all members of the Liberal Party within the coalition with the remarks which have been made. The late Sir Charles William Davidson served Australia in a great range of ways. He was a very fine citizen, a soldier, a member of parliament and a Minister. I believe his record shows that he served Australia well in all of those respects. I suppose my closest connection with him was two-fold: I used to sit in the House of Representatives as a schoolboy and watch him at work as a Minister. I also had the privilege of working in the Post Office as a postman while he was Postmaster-General. I never got the opportunity to pass on the tips that I had as to the improvement of the efficiency of the Post Office. In retrospect, I wish I had. The Liberal Party joins the rest of the Senate in expressing condolence and sympathy to the family of the late Sir Charles William Davidson.
