Senator LEWIS —I address a question to the Minister representing the Minister for Territories. I ask: Is it a fact that last night two prominent Adelaide businessmen were arrested in the Australian Capital Territory and now have been charged with attempting to bribe a Federal officer in relation to the sale of the Belconnen Mall? Is this part of the evaluation process being conducted according to the Minister's statement yesterday and the real reason why the names of tenderers for the Belconnen Mall have not yet been disclosed? Are Federal police investigating other allegations or persons in connection with tenders for the Belconnen Mall?

Senator GIETZELT —It is a fact that two men were arrested in the Australian Capital Territory and have been charged with giving a Commonwealth officer $10,000 to influence or affect his duty as a Commonwealth officer. That is the only information I have in respect of the matter. There was no information at all about where they had come from or who they are except that two such persons had been arrested. In respect of the other two matters Senator Lewis raised, the answer in both cases is no.
