Senator MASON(10.38) —In my speech in the second reading debate I raised the question of the increased cost for gas. I asked the Acting Minister for Resources and Energy (Senator Walsh) to give some sort of indication to the Senate and the community on what will be the cost. The point is of some importance to the community and I would have thought that it is one of the most important aspects of this legislation. Plainly there will be an increase in the cost of natural gas. As Senator Sir John Carrick said in his speech on the second reading debate, so far we have had only gobbledegook from the Government on this. I ask the Minister to tell us what order of increase there will be. I cannot believe that the Government would have gone into this legislation without taking that into account. What sort of deal has been done? What will the increase be in rough percentage terms? What will it mean to consumers, especially industrial consumers?
