Senator MICHAEL BAUME(6.27) —The Minister underlines the dilemma. She is confident that the position will be as she has said. Is that really what the Committee is supposed to accept? She is confident it will be, so we are to go away comforted by that. This arrangement has been satisfactory for 30 years and no evidence that it has been unsatisfactory has been presented to this chamber or even to the leaseholder. In the absence of that information we are to go away comforted by the Minister's assurance. I certainly do not go away comforted by that assurance. I cannot see any reason why some permissive occupancy cannot be extended beyond the end of the lease. The Minister did not address herself to that essential point. I also ask: Does the Government intend to bring to an end the lease of Commonwealth property on the mainland of that area held by the Australian Railways Union?
