Senator Chaney asked the Minister for Industry, Technology and Commerce, upon notice, on 9 October 1985:

(1) What is the average nominal rate of protection for manufacturing industry.

(2) What is the averge nominal rate of protection for manufacturing industry excluding the passenger motor vehicle industry.

(3) What is the average nominal rate of protection for manufacturing industry excluding the textiles, clothing and footwear industries.

(4) What is the average nominal rate of protection for manufacturing industry, excluding the passenger motor vehicles and textiles, clothing and footwear industries.


Senator Button —The answer to the honour- able senator's question is as follows:

The Industries Assistance Commission has calculated the following rates of assistance for the year 1982-83. (latest available figures).

(1) The average nominal rate of assistance on outputs for manufacturing industry was 16 per cent.

(2) The average nominal rate of assistance on outputs for manufacturing industry, excluding the passenger motor vehicle industry, was 13 per cent.

(3) The average nominal rate of assistance on outputs for manufacturing industry, excluding the textiles, clothing and footwear industries was 13 per cent.

(4) The average nominal rate of assistance on outputs for manufacturing industry, excluding the passenger motor vehicles and textiles, clothing and footwear industries, was 10 per cent.
