Senator Peter Rae asked the Minister representing the Minister for Transport, upon notice, on 13 May 1985:

(1) How many passengers were carried by Australian National Railways Commission in the most recent full year for which this information is available.

(2) How many of the passengers in (1) above paid full fare.

(3) How many of the passengers in (1) above were there in each less than full fare category and what percentage of full fare applied to each such category.


Senator Gietzelt —The Minister for Transport has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

The Australian National Railways Commission (AN) has advised

(1) A total of 357 456 passengers were carried in 1983/84

(2) Full fare was paid by 148 148 passengers in 1983/84 (41.4 per cent of total patronage)

(3) Details of patronage for each less than full fare category during 1983/84 are:
