Senator VIGOR(9.48) —I rise as a result of the eloquence of Senator Sir John Carrick earlier on the subject of water, which is a subject quite dear to my heart. It raised a number of unanswered questions for me. I would like to know how the Government is planning to develop and handle this very important area. What appropriation is being made available to look at new developments for water conservation and water reticulation in Australia, in particular for imaginative projects such as the Clarence River hydro-electric scheme which has been promoted to me by a number of councils along the River Murray? I ask the Minister: What are the Government's current plans and what funds are being made available to look at our needs in the year 2000? How many of the plans that have been put forward are actually being put into practice?
