Senator WALSH (Minister for Finance and Acting Minister for Resources and Energy)(9.40) —I will ask the Minister for Resources and Energy to comply with Senator Sir John Carrick's last request. I do not want to start a debate on the conservation argument but, if that argument is followed a couple of steps further down the logical path that has been laid down, it could be used as a criticism of the Government's present policy of exporting crude oil. Some people criticise that policy but, to my knowledge, it is not seriously disputed by the Opposition. I think judgments are involved here. In this area, as in many other areas, the present Government has decided on policies which are more closely related to allowing market forces to determine what happens rather than Government directives.
