Senator RYAN (Minister for Education)(5.19) —This occurred because there was additional information concerning the Domremy school from the Catholic Education Office, the body that is responsible for the administration of Catholic schools in that area. In the case of the two other schools mentioned by Senator Peter Baume, they have been advised that they can seek a review of that decision and I expect that that is what they are doing. Certainly representations have been made to me, not directly from the schools, but by people on their behalf. I advised them immediately to seek a review of that decision. A review committee has been established under the chairmanship of the Chairman of the Commonwealth Schools Commission and it has now met. If the two schools that the honourable senator mentions accepted the advice that they were offered they would have put forward additional information for the meeting on Monday. If the review committee decides to recommend their funding, that will come to me and I will look at the additional information and make the decision. So the originators of all proposals that were unsuccessful have the opportunity to request a review. They have all been advised accordingly.
