Senator BUTTON (Minister for Industry, Technology and Commerce)(5.00) —I think Senator Peter Baume's point about the New South Wales Department has been made quite clear and it would be-I was going to say vulgar-tactless of me to comment on it. I think the second sentence of the passage the honourable senator read is important. It says:

This flow of information is achieved essentially through a co-operative approach with the State systems concerned.

That is probably a bureaucratic way of saying that the respective departments have to be nice to each other as much as possible. In that context Senator Baume has made the point he sought to make. I am sure it is correct that if he had not raised this issue it might have been the subject of greater obfuscation than in fact it was. So I ask the honourable senator to record that as a success, and it will undoubtedly be recognised as such in the annals of history. Insofar as the point about the equal employment opportunities program in the Australian Capital Territory Schools Authority is concerned, I have to leave now but Senator Ryan will be taking my place and I suggest that Senator Baume intrude the question to her at the appropriate time. It is getting too hard for me.
