The PRESIDENT —I inform the Senate that at 8.30 a.m. today two senators submitted letters in accordance with standing order 64-Senator Colston proposing a matter of urgency and Senator Michael Baume proposing a matter of public importance. To decide which letter should be submitted to the Senate I determined the matter by lot in the presence of the Leader of the Government in the Senate, the Leader of the Opposition and others. In accordance with the result of that procedure I now read Senator Michael Baume's letter:

Dear Mr President,

Pursuant to Standing Order 64, I propose that the following matter of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion:

`The impact of the Hawke Government's policies on interest rates and the value of the Australian dollar'.
